Coyolxauhqui

Colossal stone head of Coyolxauhqui, the Moon Goddess who was beheaded by her brother the Sun. She has bells on her cheeks and wears a moon-shaped nose-pendant. The lower parts of her ear ornaments are symbols indicating the lunar regulation of time. Engraved on her forehead are symbols of war and pestilence. National Museum of Anthropology, Mexico City
