Tizapán box

Tizapán box, basalt stone, green stone, stucco and pigments, 20 x 20 cms. width/length, Mexica/Aztec, c. 1325-1521 CE, Museo Nacional de Antropología, Mexico City.

Inside the box a small green stone figurine of the tender maize goddess Xilonen was found. The lid depicts four images of Tlaloc, the water deity, each corresponding to a cardinal direction.
