Coatlicue, the Earth Mother, creator of man and goddess of life and death. Her head is formed from the facing heads of two rattlesnakes and she wears a necklace of hearts, hands and skulls. One of a pair of colossal statues which stood in the
courtyard of the Great Temple at Tenochtitlan. Stone. National Museum of Anthropology, Mexico City. (Excavated in 1824).
