A whale in the Thames!
It would be stretching things to the extreme to try and think up an Aztec connection (though they say the Sunstone weighs as much as a blue whale...), but we couldn’t resist uploading a few snaps we took ‘in our own backyard’ on Friday January 20th. 2006, the day a northern bottlenose whale came up the River Thames to spend its final 48 hours in good old Battersea (where we’ve lived for 30 years). Truly, a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Crowds gathered in their hundreds (if not thousands) along the promenade-side of Battersea Park to catch a glimpse of her...
Sadly, all the goodwill in the world couldn’t save her...
Her final resting place will be the Natural History Museum in central London.
