Question for December 2014

Why is it better to support loads on the head and not on the shoulders? Asked by Sutton Valence Prep School. Chosen and answered by Our In-House Team

By using a ‘tumpline’, as you can see in the picture, you’re not using your muscles to carry with, you’re using your body’s frame, distributing the weight of the load on your back right down the spine, from the forehead all the way down to the lower back. It’s one of the strongest and most efficient ways of carrying heavy weights in the world!
