How many different colours of maize are there?? Asked by Steeple Bumpstead Primary School. Chosen and answered by Professor Michael Heinrich
It is one of those questions which is difficult, if not impossible to answer. It is also a very interesting question. First you need to keep in mind that corn may have multiple colours on a single cob. At the same time, there are some classical colours which are common - a red one, a range of often dark blues and then more intensive yellows, which however, can get into red or blue. So, to keep it simple, you could say red, blue, more intensive yellow and the classical yellow are the main ones, plus hundreds of different shades of these colours.
