The Aztec migrants from Aztlan were not peaceful. When they left their homeland at Aztlan, they actually constituted a large group of different tribes who, according to many sources, did not get along. The Codex Boturini contains a scene [see pic] showing them splitting up due to some kind of discord among them. In another scene in that manuscript we see them removing the hearts of several enemies they encountered along the way. The Codex Azcatitlan shows the Mexica, after splitting off from the other groups, engaging in combat with yet other enemies. According to the Franciscan Bernardino de Sahagún, the migrant Mexica leader, Huitzilopochtli, was attacked by his sister Coyolxauhqui and their brothers at Coatepec, a site visited while en route to the Basin of Mexico. Hutizilopochtli killed his sister and his brothers fled.
