The front of Parham House
Finely displayed in the Long Gallery of Parham House, near Pulborough in West Sussex, is a beautiful mid eighteenth century Mexican shawl or ‘rezobo’ - worked on linen, embroidered in brighly coloured silks, it depicts life in Mexico City ‘in great and charming detail’. Spread over three bands, the scenes include the great fountain (now no longer there) in the main square of Mexico City, life in the 'floating gardens' of Xochimilco, and figures in contemporary dress walking and travelling in horse-drawn coaches, among many other pastimes.
