We’re delighted to support the new and exciting launch of the sci-fi thriller inspired by ancient Mesoamerican cultures, developed by our good friends Daniel Parada and Louise Fogerty (who was inspired by attending a Mexicolore workshop on the Aztecs at her primary school!) Their work is consistently high-standard, authentic, carefully researched and beautiful. Please pledge your support of this project by following the Kickstarter link below.
Welcome to the world of Dream Rider!
Enter a world where even your dreams are the site of occultist power struggles. Dream Rider is an epic sci-fi thriller set in a fictional futuristic world inspired by indigenous cultures of the past. This suspenseful tale follows a man seeking to unravel a dark conspiracy that takes him on a journey filled with religious revolutionaries and cryptic tiumalinque, extra sensory individuals who work through visions and dreams to manipulate reality. Creators Daniel Parada and Louise Fogerty have created a richly imagined, entirely indigenous world inhabited by humans as well as mythical races inspired by Mesoamerican folklore and those from around the world. Their passionate attention to detail is seen in every page of this beautifully illustrated graphic novel.
“Right from the comic’s earliest concept, we knew that we wanted everything from the most miniscule of details to its overarching themes to be bent to a Mesoamerican standard. The peoples and places you will see are fictional, but in designing the world, we didn’t want to diverge too far from their sources. For example, place names, the way people dress, and the deities they worship have been carefully chosen to ground them to certain civilizations.” Nevertheless, Dream Rider aims not only to highlight and celebrate the richness and diversity found within Mesoamerica itself, but to explore concepts and issues that are relevant to humanity and our planet today. If you love indigenous American culture and history, and a gripping adventure that pushes the boundaries of what Mesoamerica can look like in story, then Dream Rider is for you!
About the authors:-
Daniel Parada is a Salvadoran comic artist based in San Francisco. Growing up he had two major passions; history and drawing. For this reason and in large part thanks to his heritage, he came to depict Mesoamerica in his art, and in 2010 self published his first graphic novel, Zotz. He has been creating comics and illustrations in this genre ever since.
Louise Fogerty is a half English, half Swedish animator and comic artist from the UK with a passion for storytelling, history, mythology, and drawing. After developing a fascination with Mesoamerica from childhood, she now creates an urban fantasy webcomic called “Rey Sol Tonatiuh” and has collaborated frequently with Daniel on various works.
