Covid-safe in-school programme for 2020-21

• Option A
Individual 1-hour per class sessions. Each class will have a 1 hour session (up to 3 classes in a morning). Compared to our old-style mass-participation programme, this is a smaller, gentler session based around an introductory presentation from us with slides (approx. 35mins), followed by a close up look at our display and an open Q&A session using a display of prize artefacts from our collection (approx. 25mins). This option is ideal if you are keeping classes separate and avoiding mixing ‘social bubbles’. We’ve run straightforward Q&A sessions very successfully in past years; they uniquely allow a much closer, more intimate look at and discussion of individual artefacts. We HAVE though retained from our flagship programme our popular opening chant (all chant, around 8-10 children play drums to accompany*).

• Option B
A full year group session of 2 hours (excluding break). This session would be a longer introductory presentation from us with slides (approx. 1 1/4 hours) followed by a (3/4 hour) open Q&A session using a display of prize artefacts from our collection. This session will have to run in the hall as it will be the whole year group in together. Ideal if the whole year group is in the same ‘social bubble’.
We HAVE retained from our flagship programme our popular opening chant (all chant, around 8-10 children play drums to accompany*). At present the focus of the session is clothing, jewellery, calendars & codices, gods, and a demonstration of unusual Maya/Aztec wind and percussion instruments. Format: opening chant with participation --- 1 1/4 hour presentation from the team including a second chant with participation --- 10 min. close-up viewing of artefacts on display --- 30 min. Q&A session. (With a short break at some point) *Please note: all drum surfaces and beaters are cleaned/disinfected prior to and in between chants. No other artefacts are handled nor any costumes worn.*
