Hello! I was wondering what the symbolism of the net cape was, and in what settings it was worn and by who?

There’s a lovely example of a knotted cape worn by the head teacher of the telpochcalli commoners’ school in Book 3 of the Florentine Codex. Its name in Nahuatl was/is cuechintli and it’s also mentioned in Book 2 of the Codex: Sahagún describes the impersonator of Tezcatlipoca in the festival of Toxcatl ‘And he went putting on only his net cape like a fish net of wide mesh with a fringe’.
