Heavy basalt statue

Yvonne Curatolo writes: ‘I have a large and heavy, approx 100 lbs, volcanic statue which I purchased at an estate sale directly from a lady that was moving into assisted living about 30 years ago. She and her husband were school teachers that spent their summers in the 1930’s-50’s in Mexico City. She told me that it came “out of a mountain just outside Mexico City”, that they watched the dig and she had to have it. That is all I know about the piece. I always thought I would go visit her to ask more questions but I never did. I had him next to a fireplace for about 20 years and when my mother and sister came to stay for a while they were uncomfortable looking at him and so I moved him to my back yard. He is heavy and sat outside in the elements for maybe one year, which caused the discoloration. I fear and hope I did not do a lot of harm to him because he was very dark and is now lighter in coloration in spots.
