‘Monkey pot’

Corrine Schlessel writes: I found this unusual Monkey pot/vessel at a local thrift shop. The interior is somewhat cruder than most pottery I’ve seen, which admittedly is not much. I would be interested in knowing anything about its possible history and also its monetary value. Somehow, I thought it may be Aztec or Mayan. We are living in Tucson, close to the Mexican border but I suspect this is not Mexican in origin.
Any information you can offer will be much appreciated.
